About the role

As a Fleet Driver at CarMax, you’ll transport vehicles between stores, auctions, vendors, and logistics hubs, playing a critical role in maintaining inventory flow and customer satisfaction. This position is ideal for professionals who prioritize safety and efficiency while representing a brand built on trust and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Safely load, secure, transport, and offload CarMax vehicles.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of vehicles to support inventory flow and customer satisfaction.
  • Operate equipment with a focus on safety, efficiency, and cleanliness, maintaining a well-kept truck and trailer.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
  • Represent CarMax professionally when interacting with vendors, store associates, and the public.
  • Follow all company and federal safety regulations to ensure compliance and minimize risk.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
  • 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience (Military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered).
  • Current CarMax associates may apply if they meet:
    • A valid Class A CDL.
    • 2+ years of CMV driving experience at CarMax (non-Class A CMV experience acceptable).
    • No preventable safety incidents in the past 2 years (validated by Safety & Compliance Team).
  • Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
  • Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and operate winches during loading.
  • Proficiency in operating a 10-speed transmission.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $23.80 - $40.50.

Benefits

Full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates are entitled to:

  • Up to 48 hours of sick time per year, accrued per pay period.
  • Between 80 and 200 hours of vacation time per year after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of service.
  • 8 hours of pay for each of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year, plus 1 floating holiday.
  • Holiday Premium Pay if required to work on a scheduled holiday.

Full-time salaried associates are entitled to paid time away as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, and floating holidays, subject to manager approval.
