Responsible for driving a tractor and pulling a flatbed in accordance with DOT and company guidelines to pick up baled material from multiple customers daily. Operates a forklift to collect baled recycle material and hauls loads to various baling plants or MRFs under seasonal weather conditions. Must adhere to DOT load balancing, load securement, and hours-of-service regulations. Provides basic customer service related to delivery issues and assists in resolving problems.
Responsibilities
- Performs complete DOT-required pre- and post-trip inspection of tractor and flatbed and documents using standard DOT forms.
- Operates company vehicles in compliance with DOT and company safety regulations.
- Operates forklift in adherence to DOT, OSHA, and company safety regulations.
- Notifies Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notifies Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions (blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways, or potential safety hazards).
- Communicates route status to Route Supervisor and Customer Service Group.
- Monitors gauges, dials, and other indicators; ensures all necessary scheduled maintenance is performed regularly.
- Fulfills assigned route pick-ups.
- Operates hydraulic controls.
- Properly loads and unloads baled recycle material and adheres to DOT load securement requirements.
- Cleans truck and compactor as needed.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class A CDL (Class A with Airbrake endorsement).
- Minimum one year CDL driving experience or verifiable 150,000 log miles.
- Must meet or exceed DOT medical standards (49 CFR 383.51).
- Must pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical and drug screen.
- Must provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration form.
- Current forklift operator’s certification.
- Demonstrated ability to operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment safely in all weather conditions and working environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of recycling commodity classifications, grades of paper and plastics, and commingled collection processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper DOT loading, transportation, and shipping procedures for commodities.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting up to 75 lbs, bending, and sitting for extended periods.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must adhere to all company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook & Code of Conduct.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by Pratt Safety and OSHA.
- Strong work ethic, professional attitude, and ability to follow directions.

- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
