Clean Harbors in Columbus, OH is seeking a Class A CDL Equipment Operator to operate a variety of heavy and light-duty trucks and work equipment at customer sites, including vacuum trucks, Cuscos, guzzlers, and roll-offs.

About the role

This role performs driving and non-driving duties on and off customer sites associated with hazardous waste clean-up. Hazmat and Tanker endorsements are preferred. The position requires attendance at a two-week, paid Academy training out of state, with all expenses covered by the company.

Schedule

  • Typically Monday through Friday, with an average start time of 6 am
  • Average workday of 8–10+ hours
  • Overtime after 40 hours
  • Must be available for emergency response or project work that may require out-of-town travel for up to 2 weeks at a time (hotel and per diem provided)

Pay

$30–33 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes
  • Operate commercial trucks and assist field laborers as needed (team atmosphere)
  • Operate a variety of Class A trucks
  • Load and unload trucks
  • Perform manual labor on-site to fulfill customer needs
  • Properly placard vehicles to meet Company and DOT requirements/regulations
  • Maintain daily logs, time sheets, and various reports
  • Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations and rules
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state, and federal requirements
  • Observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures
  • Adhere to all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • On-call for emergency response on a rotating basis every other week (by position)
  • Site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling of hazardous materials (by position)

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Ability to obtain Hazmat and Tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment
  • Ability to use various mobile devices
  • Perform physical functions per job requirements
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical (by position)
  • Per OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.34, employees in positions requiring respirators must meet facial hair standards

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Commercial driver experience
  • Preferred: Hazmat and Tanker endorsement
  • Preferred: Previous Hazmat experience
  • Preferred: Ability to operate a manual transmission
  • Preferred: Previous manual labor experience
