Clean Harbors in Columbus, OH is seeking a Class A CDL Equipment Operator to operate a variety of heavy and light-duty trucks and work equipment at customer sites, including vacuum trucks, Cuscos, guzzlers, and roll-offs.
About the role
This role performs driving and non-driving duties on and off customer sites associated with hazardous waste clean-up. Hazmat and Tanker endorsements are preferred. The position requires attendance at a two-week, paid Academy training out of state, with all expenses covered by the company.
Schedule
- Typically Monday through Friday, with an average start time of 6 am
- Average workday of 8–10+ hours
- Overtime after 40 hours
- Must be available for emergency response or project work that may require out-of-town travel for up to 2 weeks at a time (hotel and per diem provided)
Pay
$30–33 per hour

Responsibilities
- Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes
- Operate commercial trucks and assist field laborers as needed (team atmosphere)
- Operate a variety of Class A trucks
- Load and unload trucks
- Perform manual labor on-site to fulfill customer needs
- Properly placard vehicles to meet Company and DOT requirements/regulations
- Maintain daily logs, time sheets, and various reports
- Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations and rules
- Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state, and federal requirements
- Observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures
- Adhere to all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
- On-call for emergency response on a rotating basis every other week (by position)
- Site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling of hazardous materials (by position)
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL
- Ability to obtain Hazmat and Tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment
- Ability to use various mobile devices
- Perform physical functions per job requirements
- Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical (by position)
- Per OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.34, employees in positions requiring respirators must meet facial hair standards
Qualifications
- Preferred: Commercial driver experience
- Preferred: Hazmat and Tanker endorsement
- Preferred: Previous Hazmat experience
- Preferred: Ability to operate a manual transmission
- Preferred: Previous manual labor experience
