About the role
Operate trucks to transport dirt, aggregate, asphalt, and other materials and/or equipment to various job site locations. Work in the yard area to stockpile and move materials as needed. This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of equipment/trucks. Work will be performed per the supervisor’s instruction, free from direct supervision except for more complicated jobs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Follow all company policies and DOT/FMCSA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
- Drive truck equipped with dump body to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock, or bituminous paving materials.
- Check vehicle to ensure it is safe to operate, including tires, lights, engine oil, power steering fluid, coolant level, fan belts, and windshield wipers.
- Operate vehicle in a safe and professional manner regardless of location, speed limit, and traffic, exhibiting defensive driving skills.
- Obey weight limits when loading truck and keep floorboards, stepping areas, and hand holds free of obstructions.
- Operate controls for tarping load, strapping tarp, and raising/lowering dump bed and third axle.
- Tarp all loads regardless of material being hauled.
- Hook and adjust tailgate spreader chains for tailgating material and manually clean tailgate and apron after unloading.
- Keep inside of bed clean of buildup of materials.
- Monitor dash gauges (oil, temperature, air, tachometer, speedometer, amperage, and pyrometer) and conditions to the sides and rear of vehicle using mirrors.
- Constantly monitor company radio for change of assignment and dispatch.
- Submit daily logs that comply with Company, State, and Federal Regulations and complete daily truck reports.
- Inspect vehicle for defects and notify management of said defects; do not drive vehicle with known defects that could cause injury or property damage.
- Perform physical tasks including leg movement, engaging/disengaging clutch, depressing brake pedal and accelerator, climbing onto bed, wrist and arm movement, steering, operating controls, and manual labor such as digging materials from bed or assisting crews with general labor work (e.g., shoveling).
- Adhere to all company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards, including safety manual, employee handbook, and fleet safety manual.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience working with road construction in high traffic areas preferred.
- Must maintain a valid CDL License.
- Must adhere to company policy to receive a current Medical Examiner's Certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years truck driving experience.
- Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as necessary.
- Must be able to provide proper documentation that you have the legal right to work in the United States.
Physical demands
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend and twist at waist, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to stand and walk.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber.
Pay
$21.00 per hour
