Claims Specialist - Medical Professional Liability (Pennsylvania based)
About the role
ProAssurance is a leading specialty insurer specializing in healthcare professional liability, products liability for medical technology and life sciences, legal professional liability, and workers' compensation insurance. This position supports our medical professional liability line of business and is remote, based out of Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
- 30% - Participate in review processes to evaluate coverage, liability, causation, damages, case value, reserves, and manage total claims cost.
- 25% - Collaborate with defense counsel regarding case value, defense tactics, and strategies per department guidelines.
- 20% - Responsible for preparing reports for management by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing claim information.
- 15% - Represent the Company through attendance at trials, settlement conferences, mediations, and insured meetings.
- 5% - Review and approve reasonable legal expenses and fees associated with the claim file and negotiate adjustment of charges when appropriate.
- 3% - Recommend resolution strategies and participate in settlement negotiations when appropriate.
- 2% - Perform special projects as directed by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Advanced degree or certification in the medical, legal, or insurance field preferred.
- Minimum two years’ experience in the legal, medical, or insurance field, with a high degree of specialized and technical competence.
- Professional liability experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Proven leadership, communication, and writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management expertise.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to learn new computer software applications.
- Extensive travel may be required.
- Willingness and ability to be available beyond normal business hours.
- Ability to attend business functions and present a positive image of the Company.
- Valid driver’s license required.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $76,208.00 - $125,756.00. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, your location, and comparison to other team members already in this role.
Schedule
The position is remote and based out of Pennsylvania.
