Claims Specialist – Employment Practices Liability
About the role
This role is on the Wholesale Financial Lines Claims team, which handles excess and primary claims for Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Directors and Officers (D&O), and related lines. The Claims Specialist reports to the Head of Wholesale Claims – Financial Lines and is responsible for investigating, analyzing, and evaluating EPL claims, ensuring proper coverage determinations and navigating claims to successful conclusions. The selected individual will gain expertise in EPL claims and coverage while engaging with sophisticated insureds and resolving complex disputes. This role offers meaningful opportunities to handle claims in specialized insurance sectors and to learn the broader range of Wholesale Financial Lines products.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Claims Specialist focused on Employment Practices Liability claims within AXIS' North America Claim team.
- Determine the appropriate valuation of complex claims, recommend settlement strategies, adhere to company policies, and collaborate with insureds, brokers, and partners effectively.
- Travel to participate in mediations, observe trials, and strengthen relationships with vital AXIS partners.
- Escalate coverage concerns to internal teams and collaborate with external coverage attorneys when specific assignments necessitate their involvement.
- Develop claim and litigation strategies, delegate tasks, and oversee the work of external legal advisors effectively.
- Assist with underwriting inquiries while analyzing claim trends, conducting data analysis, and performing comprehensive risk assessments to support decision-making processes.
- Maintain precise records of claim activities and promptly update systems with all relevant details ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
- Hold a Juris Doctorate.
- Operate efficiently in settings with high visibility, shifting deadlines, and evolving expectations while staying focused and achieving outcomes.
- Demonstrate organizational abilities and solve problems effectively.
- Exhibit outstanding skill in verbal communication and written expression.
- Showcase skill as a litigator or litigation manager, well-versed in dispute resolution.
- Write coverage letters independently with precision and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of the work.
Travel is associated with this role. The role requires you to be in office 3 days per week and adhere to AXIS licensing requirements.

Pay
For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $90,000 - $125,000. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location. In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
