About the Opportunity
The Claims Specialist manages lower-level, non-complex workers’ compensation claims within delegated authority and under direct supervision. This role supports efficient and compliant claims handling by evaluating coverage and compensability, establishing reserves, authorizing payments, and communicating with customers, claimants, and clients. The position contributes to effective claim outcomes while following established best practices and client and carrier requirements.
Responsibilities
- Receive workers’ compensation claims and verify applicable policy coverage.
- Evaluate claim validity and determine compensability.
- Establish claim reserves and authorize payments within delegated authority limits.
- Manage non-complex lost-time claims under appropriate supervision.
- Communicate claim status and updates with customers, claimants, and clients.
- Follow client and carrier guidelines, procedures, and established claims practices.
- Participate in claim reviews and support quality and performance objectives.
- Assist with more complex claims and related activities as needed.
- Complete additional projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum 1 year of industry or claims management experience preferred.
- Current workers’ compensation license or certification required and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply claims practices, policies, and procedures.
- Strong problem identification, analytical, and resolution skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Strong interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
- Annual pay range of $52,999–$85,473.
- Compensation is market-based and may vary based on location, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
- Final compensation level may be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and assessment during the interview process.
