Claims Monitoring Counsel

About the Role

MG+M The Law Firm (MG+M) is seeking an experienced mid-to-senior level attorney to join our Professional Consulting Practice Group. This group provides risk management, claims monitoring, and strategic advice to architects, engineers, and their professional liability insurers, focusing on emerging issues such as AI, alternative construction delivery models, and project-specific risk frameworks. The practice spans the U.S. and Canada, with a concentration on large, complex infrastructure projects and associated risk management.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized risk management and claims avoidance/mitigation advice.
• Conduct contract reviews and seminars.
• Investigate, evaluate, and monitor the defense of complex professional liability claims.
• Act as a liaison to underwriters and senior claim adjusters.
• Provide strategic input and evaluation of defense strategies.
• Perform independent exposure evaluations.
• Develop and manage resolution strategies.
• Interface with clients, insurers, and other project participants.
• Negotiate the resolution of claims.
• Evaluate, manage, and provide strategic direction on significant complex construction disputes and litigation matters.
• Engage in risk management of high-value claims on large, complex projects.
• Engage and manage local counsel substantively.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and industry experts to prosecute, defend, and resolve complex disputes.

Requirements

• Experience in one or more of the following: complex civil litigation (preferably in construction), claims management, interaction with insurers, or involvement in the design/construction industry.
• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice in any U.S. state.
• Interest in construction projects.
• Ability to work independently.
• Organized and efficient work style.
• Superior research and writing skills.
• Ability to multi-task and analyze complex matters.
