Responsibilities

The Claims Examiner I or II role involves handling third-party general liability losses in a paperless environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Efficiently and effectively handling claims
  • Setting up new loss assignments in compliance with Department guidelines and best practices
  • Establishing appropriate initial loss and expense reserves and regularly evaluating files
  • Analyzing and interpreting policy language to reach coverage decisions
  • Drafting coverage correspondence and other detailed correspondence
  • Managing claim files from inception to closure, including identifying and investigating issues, determining actions, and resolving claims
  • Documenting all claim file activity
  • Directing and controlling vendor activities
  • Presenting and discussing loss facts in meetings
  • Transmitting large loss reports and other detailed documents
  • Maintaining state adjuster licenses and complying with continuing education requirements
  • Communicating with management and other departments
  • Attending training events and providing feedback

Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years of insurance experience
  • Certificates as required by states
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment (Word, Excel, E-mail)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some college preferred
  • CPCU, AIC, AEI, or completion of other insurance-related classes preferred
