Berkley Environmental, established in 2004, has underwriting and account executive units in seven regions and offers a comprehensive array of coverages for environmental liability exposures on both admitted and non-admitted bases. The company provides commercial property casualty insurance, automobile liability, workers’ compensation, and claim services tailored to unique customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations to determine coverage, liability, and damages for moderate-complexity auto claims.
  • Evaluate, negotiate, and settle assigned property damage or bodily injury claims within granted authority; seek approval for claims exceeding authority.
  • Obtain all required adjuster licenses within 180 days of hire.
  • Manage claims from assignment to conclusion, developing action plans for early resolution.
  • Handle property damage aspects of files, including total loss vehicles.
  • Provide direction and guidance to defense attorneys to develop cost-efficient litigation plans.
  • Deliver a positive customer service experience.
  • Maintain a current diary on outstanding claims and prepare large loss reports as needed.
  • Meet or exceed objectives for reserving standards, quality audits, closing ratio, expense controls, and Medicare compliance.
  • Maintain adjuster licenses by completing required continuing education courses.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree with a concentration in business, law, public administration, or insurance preferred.
  • Advanced industry designations such as AIC, CCP, or CPCU preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience handling claims in Commercial Lines, with the ability to identify and address coverage issues and complete liability investigations.
  • 2+ years of experience handling litigated injury claims.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex matters to upper management.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of collaborating with internal and external teams.

Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $85,000–$115,000 (actual salary determined by scope, complexity, location, skills, education, and experience).
  • Eligibility to participate in an annual discretionary bonus.

This is a hybrid in-office position, preferably based in Jersey City, NJ, but may also be located in Philadelphia, PA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or Irving, TX. Sponsorship is not offered for this role.
