About the role

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is seeking candidates for Claims Account Representative 2 positions in the Collections Enforcement Section. Successful candidates will collect certified delinquent taxes and debts owed to state agencies. These positions offer a hybrid in-person/remote schedule, with potential in-person requirements for training and operational needs. Positions may be headquartered at offices in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, or Boardman.

Responsibilities

  • Collects delinquent taxes and/or monies owed to state agencies.
  • Handles sensitive telephone and in-person contacts with the general public, clients, accountants, and attorneys to collect delinquent debts (e.g., accesses, reviews, and updates account information).
  • Requires payment in full and/or establishes payment plans for debtors, involving multiple computations.
  • Works with special counsel to collect debts.
  • Performs skip tracing, investigates, traces, and verifies debtor locations using various methods.
  • Maintains accounts on debt owed to state and local governments (e.g., reviews inventory daily to determine payment status, maintains daily log sheets for supervisors).
  • Issues praecipes and cites permits.
  • Assigns and/or reassigns cases and/or assessments to special counsel when necessary.
  • Negotiates repayment with debtors, legal representatives, and/or other government representatives.
  • Closes accounts that have made restitution.
  • Performs general clerical tasks (e.g., reviews and sends correspondence, files, makes copies, and answers phones).

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • 2 years of experience in collections, or 12 months of experience and 12 months of training in collections, public relations, and/or office practices and procedures.
  • 1 course or 3 months of training in English composition and grammar or business communication.
  • Formal education in arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • 4 months of experience or training in the use of personal computers, calculators, and telephone equipment.
  • Completion of an associate’s core program in business administration, communications, English, or related fields or equivalent of the minimum class qualifications noted above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Experience working in a high-volume call center.
  • Experience diffusing escalated situations.
  • Knowledge of Fair Debt Collection practices.

Pay

$23.90 per hour - $28.99 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
