Civil Surveyor

Responsibilities

• Make exact measurements to determine property boundaries and provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation and dimension of land or land features on the earth’s surface.
• Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
• Develop new data from photogrammetric records.
• Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
• Record the shape, contour, location, elevation and dimensions of site.
• Maintain accuracy of surveying equipment.
• Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries using transits, levels and GPS systems.
• Write description of site and assist with drafting of site map.
• Coordinate findings of survey with engineering, architectural personnel and the client.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying and a minimum of 3 years of experience working under a surveyor in the field.
• Must be licensed in the state.
• Must also operate sophisticated measuring instruments such as transits, laser rangefinders and GPS equipment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
• 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work.
• Background check and Chemical Screen based on job location/requirements.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor.
• Utilize basic math, algebra and geometry.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
• Candidate may be required to pass a drug screen and criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
