Civil/Structural Engineering (Substation) Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

The Power and Energy division of WSP USA is seeking a Full-Time Substation Structural Engineering Intern to join the team in Billings, MT, Overland Park, KS, or Lakewood, CO. This temporary position is open to individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program in Civil Engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Apply principles of Structural Engineering to design Structures and Foundations that support substation equipment and electrical components.
• Afford assistance with project research, field work, and design calculations and analysis.
• Assist in preparing final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Collect and maintain project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering, or related field, and a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related, Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Successful completion of junior-level courses in structural analysis and/or steel or concrete design.
• Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.

Pay

• Expected Pay (all locations): $23.03 - $29.96 per hour
• Expected Pay (Colorado only): $23.90 - $31.11 per hour
