Civil/Structural Engineer - Lake Charles, LA

S&B is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to join our team in Lake Charles, LA. The role involves independently performing assignments using standard design engineering techniques for small projects or segments of larger projects, with the ability to exercise independent judgment for minor design adaptations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provide coordination and technical guidance to designers, less experienced specialists, engineers, and others assisting in specific assignments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited curriculum or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
• Registration as a licensed professional engineer is required.
• Extensive experience with various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment.

Responsibilities

• Determine client requirements and develop specifications, drawings, instructions, and related documents.
• Review vendor drawings for major components.
• Evaluate the need for design changes and make appropriate recommendations.
• Consult with construction personnel on design constructability, field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities.
• Ensure production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
• Plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee the work of lower-level engineers and specialists assisting with projects.
• Provide conceptual design input for preliminary project estimates.

Skills

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, managers, designers, and engineers.
• Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Physical Demands

• Occasional field trips to operating plants or construction sites, requiring normal hearing, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, and balancing.
• Clear close and distance vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
• Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

Work Environment

• Primary work environment is a business office with moderate noise.
• Occasional visits or temporary assignments to operating plants or construction sites, which may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
