CIVIL SERVICE TESTING ANNOUNCEMENT - Firefighter Entrance Examination - Test Date: Thursday September 24, 2026

About the role

The City of Lufkin, Texas will administer an entrance examination for Civil Service Firefighter at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center, 601 N. Second St., Lufkin, Texas, 75901. The results will establish an eligibility list valid for twelve months or until the list is exhausted. This is an essential service position requiring the provision of services during emergency situations.

Requirements

• Applicants must be 18 years of age and not have reached their 36th birthday to take the test and be hired.
• High school diploma or equivalent required at time of hire.
• Must be able to pass a polygraph test, department interview, and drug screen.
• Applicants wishing to receive five (5) additional points added to a passing score of 70 must provide proof of an honorable discharge from active‑duty service of 180 days or more in the United States Armed Forces (DD214 showing “honorable discharge”) by 11:59 PM CST, Thursday September 17, 2026.
• Registration must be completed by 11:59 PM CST, Thursday September 17, 2026; no late arrivals will be allowed to test.
• Applicants must present a valid driver's license at the time of the test.
• Those scoring 70 or above on the examination should be prepared to participate in a physical agility test immediately after results are posted; bring appropriate clothing (shorts, tennis shoes, t‑shirt, etc.).

Pay

• Starting annual salary for new hires: $52,843.92.
• After becoming certified, annual salary increases to $55,835.09.
