Key Responsibilities
- Deliver interpretive talks at key trail sites (trail markers, stops, and significant locations)
- Aid with guided walks and on-site storytelling experiences
- Support visitors in understanding the geography, distance, and conditions of the march
- Engage visitors along the trail through mobile and outdoor experiences
- Conduct research on key locations along the trail
- Develop short interpretive narratives tied to specific trail stops
- Highlight lesser-known stories, local communities, and participant experiences
- Assist with commemorative walks, anniversary events, and public programs
- Support logistics for trail-based programming (setup, coordination, safety checks)
- Enhance visitor engagement during high-traffic events
- Observe and report on visitor usage and engagement along the trail
- Document trail conditions and visitor experience feedback
- Support data collection for program improvement
Qualifications
- Background or interest in history, African American studies, geography, or related field
- Strong storytelling and public speaking skills
- Interest in outdoor work and place-based learning
- Ability to walk and work in outdoor environments for extended periods
- Passion for civil rights history and community engagement
- Research and writing skills
