As a Quality Control Technician, you ensure that all work meets contract requirements, design specifications, and project quality standards while partnering closely with superintendents, subject matter experts, and subcontractors. You will perform detailed inspections, maintain rigorous documentation, and help drive a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement on an active construction site.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day quality control processes and activities for assigned construction scopes (concrete, site civil, or utilities).
  • Ensure all project-related work plans and project-specific quality documents required to perform quality activities are available and maintained on site.
  • Review subcontractor quality plans to confirm compliance with project and contract requirements.
  • Inspect work in the field to verify conformance with contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Interpret and understand drawings, specifications, and technical documents to support accurate inspections and quality decisions.
  • Develop and maintain daily quality control reports that clearly document work performed, inspections, and findings.
  • Prepare and issue detailed meeting minutes related to quality discussions, coordination meetings, and inspections.
  • Assist with the preparation of post-construction quality reports and turnover documentation.
  • Use the Submittal Register to track and ensure required materials and products are reviewed and approved in a timely manner.
  • Manage in-depth technical reviews of submittals against design documents to verify compliance prior to installation.
  • Proactively identify, document, and track deficiencies and non-conformances, and monitor corrective actions through completion.
  • Exercise authority to stop work when necessary to resolve safety concerns, quality issues, or non-compliance with design documents.
  • Verify that materials delivered to the site match those identified in approved submittals and complete material receipt inspection checklists.
  • Coordinate, witness, and document third-party testing, special inspections, and commissioning activities for building systems.
  • Document all tests and inspection results in an organized and traceable manner.
  • Coordinate and document the completion inspection process, including punch list and closeout activities.
  • Manage a timely project closeout by compiling and turning over all required quality and project documentation.
  • Partner closely with superintendents and subject matter experts in concrete, site civil, and utilities to support field operations.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced team members, sharing technical knowledge and best practices in quality control.
  • Support and promote a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment on the project site.

Requirements

  • Approximately 5 years of experience in construction, preferably in a field-based role supporting quality control or inspection activities.
  • Strong construction background with extensive field experience in at least one of the following: concrete, site civil, or utilities.
  • Hands-on experience with concrete work, including large concrete pits and deep foundations such as piles, for the concrete-focused scope.
  • Hands-on experience with earthwork and deep foundations for the site civil-focused scope.
  • Hands-on experience with site utilities, including electrical and wet utilities, for the utilities-focused scope.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience conducting construction inspections and documenting field conditions and results.
  • Understanding of quality control principles and the critical importance of accurate documentation on large projects.
  • Ability to identify non-conformances and deficiencies and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Capability to coordinate with third-party testing agencies and special inspectors.
  • Strong written communication skills to produce clear daily reports, meeting minutes, and quality records.
  • Effective verbal communication and collaboration skills to work closely with superintendents, subject matter experts, and subcontractors.
  • Proactive mindset with the confidence to stop work when safety, quality, or compliance is at risk.
  • OSHA 30 training or familiarity with OSHA safety standards in construction environments.
  • Technical aptitude suitable for an engineering-level field role, with eagerness to learn and grow.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience on large, complex industrial or manufacturing construction projects is highly beneficial.
  • Background in quality assurance and quality control processes in construction.
  • Experience with civil, concrete, and utilities scopes on the same project is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with using submittal registers or similar systems to track material approvals.
  • Experience preparing post-construction reports and closeout documentation.
  • Ability to mentor and support less experienced team members in the field.
  • Comfort working within a structured team that includes site leads, scope leads, and multiple technicians.
  • No specific certifications are required beyond standard industry safety training; additional certifications in inspection or quality are a plus.
