Civil Project Engineer (Land Development) | Warrenton, VA
About the role
IMEG is seeking a Civil Project Engineer specializing in land development to join our team in Warrenton, VA.
Responsibilities
- Lead civil engineering design efforts for commercial, residential, mixed-use, industrial, and institutional land development projects.
- Prepare and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility design, erosion and sediment control plans, and supporting calculations.
- Cook up and oversee permit applications with local municipalities and regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with Senior Project Managers to support project scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Serve as a technical lead on projects, coordinating with clients, consultants, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
- Utilize Civil 3D and other engineering software to perform surface modeling, watershed analysis, storm sewer design, and sanitary sewer design.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify and resolve technical or permitting challenges.
- Support projects through bidding, construction administration, and closeout phases.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and agency coordination meetings.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, regulations, client requirements, and IMEG quality standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, design standards, and best practices.
Requirements
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles related to land development, site design, utilities, grading, and stormwater management.
- Ability to lead project design efforts and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, agencies, and project teams.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and consultants.
- Ability to identify project risks and develop practical solutions.
- Working knowledge of permitting and entitlement processes throughout Virginia.
- Experience reviewing engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Ability to mentor and support the development of less experienced staff.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to travel up to 10% for project and client needs.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 4 years required, 6+ years preferred, of civil engineering experience focused on land development projects.
- Experience leading design efforts and coordinating permitting activities for site development projects.
- Experience working within an engineering consulting environment preferred.

Pay
$90,000 – $110,000 Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
