About the role
This job considers individuals at the Civil Laborer I, II, and III Level. It involves working at the job site based on the customer location, requiring travel. The role supports skilled civil craft labor for commercial or engineering construction, including installing, altering, repairing, and fixing various elements like roadway, underground utilities, and structures.
Responsibilities
- Support skilled civil craft labor for commercial or engineering construction
- Install, alter, repair, and fix various elements such as roadway, underground utilities, and structures
- Perform tasks including carpentry, forming, digging, trenching, assembling components, installing fencing, constructing improvements, and supporting operations
- Operate equipment including but not limited to laser levels, pavement breakers, jackhammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, as directed
- Utilize both power and hand tools as needed for carpentry, digging, trenching, backfilling, and compacting materials
- Operate machinery when trained and authorized by the Construction Manager
- Ensure the worksite is organized and free of clutter, debris, and garbage
- Communicate deficiencies to supervisor and promote a team approach
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger others
- Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational deadlines and objectives
- Complete daily reports and timecards and support the construction manager
Requirements
- Civil Laborer I: One (1) year general laborer or other construction experience
- Civil Laborer II: Minimum two (2) years related construction experience & capability
- Civil Laborer III: Minimum three (3) years related construction experience & capability
- Knowledge of hand commands
- Right-of-Ways: Current government issued driver’s license, DOT medical physical if required
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 or EM 385-1-1 certification
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Knowledge of construction terms and tools
- Ability to read and interpret project specifications, standards, and blueprints
- Ability to learn new skills and take direction
- Ability to perform small intricate operations involving terminations, install, and calibrate electrical parts and equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment
- Ability to climb up or down ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
- Ability to apply a pushing or pulling force in excess of 50 pounds
- Ability to work in high, precarious places and confined spaces
- Flexible work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overnights
Skills
- Basic understanding of construction terms and tools
- Effective understanding of construction terms and tools
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies
- Knowledge of effective soil moisture content and compaction means and methods to reach 90% and 95% compaction
- Ability to use hand tools and simple power tools
- Ability to perform maintenance and repairs as required
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment
- Ability to climb up or down ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
- Ability to apply a pushing or pulling force in excess of 50 pounds
- Ability to work in high, precarious places and confined spaces
- Ability to drive commercial vehicles
