Civil/Highway Co-op

About the role

As a Civil/Highway Engineering Co-op at HDR, you will work as a member of a design team on multiple projects serving clients such as NYCDEP, NYCDDC, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, MTA-New York City Transit, NYCDOT, PANYNJ and NYSDOT. The position includes preparation of plans, detail drawing/calculation checks, and estimate and quantity take-offs for projects of various sizes and complexities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare plans, detail drawings, and calculation checks
• Perform estimate and quantity take-offs
• Work on projects including Highway & Local Roadway design, Green Infrastructure/Stormwater management, Drainage & Grading, Utility/Facility upgrades, Feasibility studies, Transit flood mitigation and resiliency, and recreation/waterfront development
• Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
• Attention to detail
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills
• Commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous AE internship experience
• Local candidates preferred
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Microstation

Schedule

Full-time, in-person at the New York, NY office.

Duration

January–June 2027; length of co-op is flexible from 4 to 6 months.
