About the Role

This paid, mentored internship spans 10-12 weeks and offers real project work supporting field inspections, report writing, permit applications, site drainage and grading design, and learning the civil engineering trade. You'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of civil systems while working with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to help meet project goals and client expectations.

The team supports municipal, university, and utility work across Texas, delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design portions of civil projects according to code and IMEG standards
  • Research resources for commercially available equipment
  • Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement
  • May be required to assist with field duties such as surveying and materials testing

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software, and BIM
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry

The Texas civil team specializes in university, municipal, and utility work, including:

  • Campus infrastructure (e.g., UTD Student Housing and UT Health San Antonio utility master planning)
  • Water/wastewater (e.g., NTMWD Sister Grove RWRRF Ph. II)
  • Parks and recreation
  • Major manufacturing site development (e.g., Parker Hannifin Manufacturing Complex)

Recent projects include UTD Student Housing IX and NTMWD Sister Grove RWRRF Ph. II.
