APTIM is seeking an energetic and motivated Civil Engineering intern to join our team of engineers and scientists in support of various project activities. This internship provides hands-on experience working alongside licensed engineers and project teams on real-world infrastructure and site development projects while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills.

About the role

This is a temporary, 12-week internship running from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Interns are required to be fully available during Week 1 (May 18–22) and Week 12 (August 3–7) and are expected to minimize absences. The program observes Memorial Day (May 25, 2026) and Independence Day (July 3, 2026, observed).

Responsibilities

  • Dedicate time to learning applicable regulatory rules, company policies, and procedures.
  • Work on straightforward tasks using established procedures; all work will be reviewed by experienced staff.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to interpret data, conduct analyses, and perform calculations and modeling using appropriate software.
  • Assist in implementing remedial actions designed by professional engineering staff.
  • Support the preparation of civil engineering designs, calculations, and technical documents.
  • Assist with site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and roadway design tasks.
  • Conduct data collection, field observations, and site inspections as needed.
  • Prepare and revise drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and quantity take-offs.
  • Assist with reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with project team members to support project schedules and deliverables.
  • Review plans and documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation.
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and wear proper personal protective equipment for work on hazardous waste sites; lifting and physical work will be required.

Requirements

  • Currently attending an accredited educational institution pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Preference for candidates who have completed their Junior year in college with expected graduation in 2026.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with strong time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Available to work in various settings such as in an office or remotely in the field, depending on project needs.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a clean driving record.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to access Federal Government sites.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed.

Pay

As of the date of this posting, the pay range for this position is $25 to $34.11 per hour. Compensation depends on experience, education, key skills, geographic location, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity.
