About the role

This position provides hands-on experience in surveying, drafting, construction inspection, and maintenance activities. The work helps develop practical engineering abilities used in transportation and structural projects.

Responsibilities

  • On the Job Training: Learn various aspects of civil engineering through a structured hands-on training program
  • Surveying Tasks: Learn and operate surveying instruments and assist with preliminary and final surveys
  • Drafting Work: Prepare alignments, profiles, and structural details for roads and bridges
  • Construction Inspection: Check materials and workmanship to ensure adherence to specifications
  • Traffic Studies: Assist with speed studies, signage reviews, and accident investigations
  • Maintenance Support: Participate in seasonal county maintenance activities

Requirements

Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Multiple positions available. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week, based on District protocols. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

  • One year of civil engineering experience and a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field that includes or is supplemented by major coursework in civil engineering

Benefits

Salary: Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,658.00 (before taxes).
