Your Role

The Substation Civil Engineer – Site Focus is responsible for independently performing advanced civil site engineering for electrical substation facilities. This includes the design and analysis of site grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, land development, and overall site layout. The engineer collaborates closely with internal engineering teams, clients, and vendors to meet technical, quality, and safety standards and provides moderate guidance to junior engineers and field teams.

  • Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, and technical proposals for civil site design on substation projects
  • Perform detailed site analysis including clearing requirements, grading design, surface modeling, drainage planning, and water flow calculations
  • Develop site, grading, and drainage plans along with associated civil engineering details for IFR/IFA/IFC deliverables
  • Integrate topographic survey data, geotechnical reports, hydrology reports, and client standards into site design
  • Interface with internal engineering groups, project managers, clients, and vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure design alignment
  • Review and validate site layouts, equipment arrangements, and access/maintenance requirements for constructability
  • Apply relevant codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AASHTO, local stormwater regulations) with minimal oversight
  • Conduct quality checks on work produced by lower-level engineers and designers
  • Mentor junior engineers on design methods, modeling, and software use
  • Provide moderate field support including site walkdowns, basic construction review, and developing scopes of work for site improvements
