About the Role

As a Civil Engineer - Roadway / Highway Design, you will play a critical role in the planning, design, and execution of roadway and highway projects. This position involves design leadership, technical oversight, construction-phase services, and client interaction, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design solutions for DOT roadway and highway infrastructure projects.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, technical deliverables, and quality control.
  • Provide construction-phase services and technical support during design-build or conventional delivery projects.
  • Interface with clients to clarify project requirements, resolve challenges, and deliver technical expertise.
  • Ensure designs comply with DOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and inspectors to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, plans, specifications, and construction documents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 3-8+ years of civil engineering experience, including 3+ years in roadway/highway design.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT standards, practices, and transportation design criteria.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, HydroCAD/StormCAD, and related civil design software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction documentation tools.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification preferred.
  • Ability to conduct site visits and field inspections in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience with DOT transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of hydrology, drainage, and stormwater management systems.
  • Familiarity with design-build and conventional project delivery methods.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder communication skills.

Pay

$85,000 - $125,000 annually (based on experience).
