Position Overview We are seeking a Civil Engineer II will be an independent contributor who owns civil design packages across the full project lifecycle—from early feasibility through permit submission and construction support. This role requires demonstrated experience with utility-scale solar or energy infrastructure, proficiency across Castillo's core design toolset, and the ability to coordinate across disciplines with minimal oversight. A Civil Engineer II is expected to hold or be actively pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. What You’ll Do Civil & Site Design Lead preparation of complete civil site design packages: grading plans, drainage reports, erosion and sediment control (SWPPP), access road design, and site layout for utility-scale solar facilities (ranging from 5 to 500+ MW AC). Develop and QC Civil 3D models, including corridor modeling, surface development, alignment design, and earthwork optimization to minimize cut/fill imbalance across large-scale sites. Coordinate with hydrological and hydraulic analysis for stormwater management including pre/post runoff comparisons, detention/retention basin sizing, and floodplain coordination. Design access roads and internal haul routes to accommodate heavy equipment loads (crane pads, transformer delivery routes) per geotechnical recommendations. Prepare and review construction documents for permit submission to AHJs, state environmental agencies, and utility interconnection authorities. Project Coordination & Delivery Serve as lead civil/structural engineer of record (or EOR designee) on assigned projects, managing design deliverables from 30% through IFC (Issued for Construction). Coordinate with civil, environmental, electrical, and structural disciplines as well as external consultants, surveyors, and geotechnical firms. Support client-facing meetings and agency pre-application conferences; prepare and present technical content to clients and permitting authorities. Review and respond to RFIs, design change requests, and contractor submittals during construction phase. Manage project files, CAD standards, and QA/QC checklists to ensure deliverable consistency across the team. Internal Contribution Mentor Engineer I staff and designers on design methodology, software use, and project workflow. Contribute to the development and refinement of CAD/engineering SOPs, design templates, and calculation workbooks. Identify process inefficiencies and propose improvements to project delivery workflows. What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering. 3–5 years of experience in civil site design, with at least 2 years on utility-scale solar or energy infrastructure projects. PE licensure (or active EIT with clear path to PE within 12 months strongly preferred). Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, corridors, surfaces, alignments, profiles, cross sections, volumes). Experience with PVCase or comparable solar layout tools for panel layout optimization and civil integration. Demonstrated experience preparing stormwater reports, SWPPPs, and drainage design for large impervious surface projects. Ability to read and interpret geotechnical investigation reports and apply findings to civil and structural design. Familiarity with NEPA, state environmental permitting, stormwater general permits (CGP), and county-level land development processes. Strong technical writing skills; experience preparing engineering reports and permit applications. Experience with utility interconnection submittals and coordination with transmission/distribution owners preferredGIS proficiency (ArcGIS or QGIS) for site suitability analysis and constraint mapping preferredFamiliarity with battery energy storage system (BESS) site design and applicable fire/life-safety codes (NFPA 855) preferredExperience with AHJ coordination in Florida and/or multi-state project portfolios preferred Work Environment & Benefits This role has a remote work arrangement anywhere in the continental US.
