Civil Engineer - Highway/Roadway
About the role
The Michael Baker New Jersey Operations has an opportunity for Highway Engineers in the NJ Highway/Roadway Department. The successful candidates will have the ability to assist and lead the design and development of roadway design tasks and plans preparation.
Responsibilities
- Support the design process by preparing construction documents, plans, maps, and technical reports.
- Aid in developing drawings for highways, structures, and traffic-related projects.
- Gather and review background information for project sites, including as-built plans and existing utility services.
- Contribute to quantity take-offs and preparation of project cost estimates.
- Collaborate with design technicians to ensure accurate and timely deliverables.
- Prepare documentation for regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits.
- Absorb materials for client and project meetings.
- Participate in internal project meetings and provide input as needed.
- Occasionally conduct site visits and report findings to Project Managers.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Engage in training sessions to enhance proficiency in design software and technical elements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
- Masters in Transportation Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- PE License in NJ and/or NY, required. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate and be on-track to obtain a PE License within one year, applicable.
- Experience in preparing Preliminary Engineering to Final Design Plans is required. Post Design is desirable.
- Knowledgeable in traffic engineering/transportation planning software such as Excel, AUTOCAD, Bentley MicroStation, Scheduling, and ArcGIS is highly desirable.
- Knowledgeable in Ordinance Review (ORD) is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Qualifications
- 4 to 7+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience.
Skills
- Knowledgeable in traffic engineering/transportation planning software such as Excel, AUTOCAD, Bentley MicroStation, Scheduling, and ArcGIS is highly desirable.
- Knowledgeable in Ordinance Review (ORD) is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products.

Pay
The approximate compensation range for this position is $103,000 - $150,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location. The salary range for this position is annual.
