Ducks Unlimited (DU) Minnesota is seeking a Full-Time Engineer or Construction Manager to join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers. The successful applicant will be responsible for the planning, design, and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects, primarily in Minnesota. This position may be based in the Garfield, MN office or remote (preferred in Southwest MN). Remote employees may be required to come into a DU office or other designated location for meetings and business needs with reasonable notice.

About the Role

DU Engineers operate similarly to a typical consulting agency, performing project planning, design, contracting, and construction management for wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. The role involves close collaboration with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and conservation partners. Occasional travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposal scope of work and budgets in coordination with biological staff.
  • Attend project meetings and collaborate with partners on site designs and functionality.
  • Perform hydrological, soil, and topographic analysis for restoration/enhancement sites.
  • Work with DU biologists to maximize ecological enhancements.
  • Review engineered plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D and assist in drafting plans as needed.
  • Prepare project reports, bidding documents, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field inspections, topographic surveys, and support construction management.
  • Ensure consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, schedules, contracts, and budgets.
  • Travel to partner/team meetings, construction activities, and site visits (some overnight travel required).
  • Perform field work, including strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions.
  • Operate trailers, ATVs, and outboard boats as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited program (minimum requirement).
  • Preferred minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering design and construction.
  • Strong oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work in a team-based environment.
  • Passion for conservation and problem-solving.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with surveying, AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, hydrology, hydraulics.
  • Civil design expertise, including structures and pump stations.
  • Experience with erosion control, construction inspection, and project management.
