Civil Engineer Co-Op
Responsibilities
- Assists in gathering field data and capital cost estimating when needed
- With supervision, uses design criteria document(s) to meet the project objectives
- Ensures quality and technical accuracy of assigned deliverables
- Follows the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards
- With supervision, performs necessary calculations and design effort to prepare deliverables
- Collaborates with civil associates on a project
- Maintains individual schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
- Designs earthwork, pavement, underground utilities, storm water management, erosion control methodologies
- Selects appropriate construction materials
- Supports construction efforts, startup, and commissioning
- Interacts with other design disciplines and project management as needed
- Communicates with local authorities for permitting coordination
- Collaborates with outside consultants and contractors
- Participates in multi-discipline squad checks of deliverables
- Identifies and communicates scope changes for discipline
- Communicates individual forecasted staffing requirements for projects
Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Completed at least 4 semesters of related engineering courses
- Prior co-op experience preferred
- Developing written and oral communication skills
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks
- Understanding of civil engineering concepts and principles
- Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and industry standards
- Civil design experience, including storm water analysis, underground utility, and three-dimensional modeling
