Civil Engineer – Bridge Design (Level 1 Bridge & Culvert Design)

Key Responsibilities

• Design Prestressed Box Beam Bridges on capped pile substructures
• Design Single span concrete slab bridges on capped pile substructures
• Design Continuous slab bridges on capped pile substructures
• Design Concrete deck overlay projects
• Design Minor rehabilitation work involving concrete patching, deck joint rehabilitation, parapet safety regrading, or other structural repairs not requiring design computations
• Plan and design Bikeway/Pedestrian bridges
• Plan and design Low flow stream crossings
• Plan and design Drainage conduits (culvert pipes and three-sided/four-sided box culverts)
• Conduct bridge hydraulic and scour analysis
• Conduct Structure type studies
• Conduct FEMA floodplain analysis and permitting
• Conduct Army Corps of Engineers permitting
• Coordinate with utilities
• Review contractor material submittals

Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• An EIT certification and be in the process of obtaining or already possess a P.E. license
• 0-5 years of experience in bridge design
• Knowledge and understanding of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Bridge Design Manual, Location and Design (L&D) Manual, Construction and Material Specifications, and Standard Construction Drawings is a benefit, but not required

Qualifications

• Very responsive with a strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines
• Continuous learning mindset
• Ability to interact with the public, clients, and reviewing agencies in a courteous manner
• Working proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
