We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer to support a wide variety of water projects in Phoenix, AZ. The preferred candidate will have a background in Pipeline Conveyance / Pump Station Design and will perform well in a task leader/task manager role with a desire to advance their career as either a project technical leader or project manager.
Responsibilities
- Create and sign off on basic to highly complex engineering designs for conveyance systems, including drawings and technical specifications for pipelines, storage tanks, turnout and diversion structures, collection and distribution systems, treatment plants, and pump stations.
- Apply hydraulic modeling techniques and tools to support the design and analysis of conveyance systems, including surface hydrology, pressure and gravity piping systems.
- Contribute to site design activities including facility location, grading, and paving plans.
- Perform inspection and condition assessment of existing systems, make recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement, and prepare pipe rehabilitation projects for bidding.
- Demonstrate knowledge of different pipe materials and apply trenchless construction methods.
- Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
- Develop permitting plans, applications, and coordinate with City Departments for work in the right-of-way, building, and construction.
- Implement rigorous quality processes and ensure compliance with firm standards.
- Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).
- Meet with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
- Submit technical papers and attend conferences, symposia, etc., to improve the visibility of the firm’s products and services to current and potential clients.
- Contribute to the firm’s knowledge management by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs and studies.
- Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff.
- Mentor more junior staff and develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
- Supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 7 years of related experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required (10% or less).
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills
- Expert knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
- Expert knowledge of engineering principles of design.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
Pay
Pay range minimum: USD $87,131.00
Pay range maximum: USD $152,485.00
CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
