Civil Designer, DC Design Engineering

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Civil Designer with a passion for producing integrated 3D site designs to join our highly creative and efficient multi-disciplinary BIM design team. You will design challenging and complex projects with innovative solutions for Amazon-owned data center facilities, supporting our Design Engineering team through the preparation of Civil models and site designs utilizing Civil 3D.

You will influence data center design documents for campus planning, grading and drainage design, stormwater management, site utilities and building tie-in, pavement design, and site development documentation. Amazon’s data centers are industry-leading examples of innovation in space utilization, energy efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the equipment that ensures our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll collaborate with diverse teams, including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, and security experts.

Responsibilities

• Design the Civil infrastructure of data center sites using Civil 3D to create and maintain coordinated site/campus models.
• Work independently with occasional guidance and collaborate within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks, including coordination with internal groups, external suppliers, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
• Prepare and develop detailed Civil 3D models and site layouts, aligned with the latest building designs.
• Develop and publish construction documentation for Civil site and campus designs in a fast-paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
• Create and maintain regional and global template documents in Civil 3D, coordinated with multidisciplinary Revit models.
• Update and modify existing models, studies, and construction documents as required.
• Assist in the creation and maintenance of CAD templates and enforce quality standards across Civil 3D workflows.
• Participate in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
• Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
• Assist in information exchange processes between internal and external customers in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
• Record and report key metrics to management.
• Travel to data center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys (on average, once or twice a year).
• Provide creative, out-of-the-box solutions while maintaining a positive and hardworking attitude.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering experience.
• 4+ years of experience using Civil 3D for producing Civil BIM content, site/campus layouts, and construction drawings.
• Direct experience creating workflows that reference Revit into Civil 3D to capture the latest building design updates.
• Direct experience creating and maintaining Civil 3D parts, structures, pipe/pressure networks, corridors, and surfaces.
• Practical knowledge and understanding of building codes and safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience designing sites from test-fit through to site permit delivery.
• Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers.
• Experience and knowledge applying Lean principles to design modeling and drawing production.
• Proficiency with the following software tools: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Dynamo, RF Tools, CTC Tools, Smartsheet, and Procore.
• Familiarity with the BIMForum LOD Specification and best practices for BIM collaboration.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is:

• USA, TX, Austin: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually.
• USA, VA, Herndon: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually.
• USA, WA, Seattle: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually.

Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
