Civil Design Engineer
About the role
Design civil site, access, and drainage systems for large-scale energy substation and transmission projects using design-build delivery methods, working within a multi-disciplinary in-house team across civil, structural, geotechnical, and construction management disciplines.
Core responsibilities include:
- Execute assignments requiring application of standard and advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out civil engineering tasks.
- Develop civil construction specifications, assist in development of cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.
- Support of substation and transmission line physical design consisting of layout, conduit, grounding, site and work pad development, and erosion and sediment control.
- Perform basic stormwater calculations to size culverts, ditches, and stormwater retention/detention facilities using stormwater modeling software.
- Coverage with multi-discipline design teams including geotechnical, geological, structural, transmission line, substation, GIS, and construction management team members.
- Develop written reports and/or provide verbal communication of information in a professional and appropriate manner.
- Work under supervision of Project Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Project Manager in a professional office setting.
- Occasional site visits to project sites located throughout North America.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
EIT or FE certification with an interest in obtaining the Professional Engineer licensure
1-4 years of civil design experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microstation
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small or medium size office setting
