Brief Description
LJB Inc. is a fast-growing national engineering firm specializing in civil and structural engineering and geospatial, safety, health, and environmental services. The firm has a 50+ year history of leveraging new technologies to drive innovation and bring unique and sustainable value to our clients. We are seeking candidates to fill the position of Civil Design Engineer to serve a varied client base and help expand our Land Development Practice in our South Portland, Maine office.
Essential Functions
- Plan and design a wide range of land development projects.
- Perform engineering calculations or analyses.
- Prepare drawings and graphics using CAD platforms.
- Assist in preparing engineering reports, permit applications, bid documents and other typical written communication.
- Perform construction observation to ensure conformance to design specifications, assist in resolving issues that arise and strengthen design skills through a greater understanding of construction means and methods.
- Perform various types of engineering modeling tasks, potentially including: Hydraulic pipe sizing, pump station sizing, stormwater runoff calculations and modeling.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and opinions of probable construction cost for various design projects.
- Analyze, review, and understand design guidelines, specifications, ordinances and rules and regulations associated with development and design.
- Perform basic survey work, such as using a level to confirm elevations of existing site features.
- Interact and communicate with office staff, design team members, contractors, regulatory officials and clients.
- Desire to innovate and solve difficult problems from inception to final deliverable.
Required Qualifications
- CIVIL DESIGN ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- 1 -3 years of experience with design and plan production in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or equivalent.
- EIT or EI Certification preferred.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards.

Pay
Salary Range: $70,000-80,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
