About the Role

The City of Ft. Lupton is seeking skilled workers to address frozen water lines using advanced thawing equipment. This role involves operating the Hot-Shot 400® to safely and efficiently restore water flow in metal pipes during Colorado’s harsh winters, minimizing inconvenience and potential damage from burst pipes.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Hot-Shot 400® to thaw frozen metal water lines up to 175 feet in length and 1-1/2″ in diameter.
• Transport and set up the Hot-Shot 400® at job sites, including stretching cables and clamping them to frozen pipe sections.
• Ensure proper connection to a clean, grounded 115-volt receptacle and monitor the unit during operation.
• Use the lower 320-amp setting for older homes or shorter pipe lengths as needed.
• Collaborate with city crews to minimize disruption and avoid hazardous methods like blow torches or welding equipment.
• Maintain equipment reliability and safety by adhering to operational guidelines and utilizing built-in safety features (e.g., thermal overload protection, circuit breakers).

• Ability to operate the Hot-Shot 400® or similar thawing equipment safely and effectively.
• Basic understanding of electrical safety and low-voltage systems.
• Physical ability to transport and set up equipment in freezing or challenging outdoor conditions.
• Problem-solving skills to adjust settings (e.g., switching between 400-amp and 320-amp modes) based on job requirements.
• Awareness of alternative methods (e.g., water jet drain cleaners) for thawing non-metal pipes or addressing other blockages.
