About the role

CITY-WIDE PARAEDUCATOR
DEPARTMENT: CURRENTLY AT IVY DRIVE SCHOOL (Breakthrough)
REPORTS TO: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction.
  • Assist the special education teacher in maintaining discipline.
  • Support the teacher in instructional activities.
  • Escort students between rooms.
  • Toileting students is sometimes required.
  • Involves work with both special education and regular students.
  • Aid in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch.
  • Aid in completing classroom assignments.
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes.
  • Assist the teaching staff in filing and preparing paperwork.
  • Alert teachers to any issues observed.
  • May require supporting with toileting of students.

Qualification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
  • Two years of college credit OR hold an associate’s (or higher) degree.
  • Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge in mathematics, reading, and writing, and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of job-related software applications.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Physical Demands

  • Sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Work Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment is typical of classrooms with school children.
  • The employee will work throughout the school building, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus.
  • The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well-being of students in their charge.

Pay and Schedule

Salary: Per contractual agreement
Schedule: 6.5 hours per day (8:35am to 3:35pm)
Date of Service: 2025-26 School Year
