About the role
Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction. Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher. Maintain discipline, assist with instructional activities, escort students, and supervise during recess and lunch. Assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). May involve toileting students.
Responsibilities
- Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction.
- Absorb and implement IEPs.
- Maintain classroom discipline.
- Assist with instructional activities.
- Escort students between rooms.
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Assist with filing and paperwork.
- Alert teachers to student issues.
- Support toileting of students (when required).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit or an associate's degree.
- Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge and IEP understanding.
Physical Demands
- Sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Work Environment
- The noise level is typical of a classroom with school children.
- The employee works throughout the school building, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus.
- The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well-being of students in their charge.
Pay & Schedule
Salary range: $22.12 - $25.18 per hour (based on contractual agreement BPS Contracts).
Work schedule: 6.5 hours per day (9:10 AM to 4:10 PM).
