About the role

The New York Post is seeking a full-time City Life Reporter (Sunday–Thursday, 9 am–5 pm) focused on delivering compelling stories that capture the essence of life in New York City, from the bustling streets of Manhattan to the vibrant neighborhoods of Brooklyn and beyond. The ideal candidate is passionate about storytelling and possesses a keen eye for the nuances of city living. As a City Life Reporter, you will be responsible for uncovering and reporting on the captivating stories that shape the daily lives of New Yorkers.

Responsibilities

• Research, pitch, and write engaging articles that highlight the diverse experiences of city dwellers, meeting tight deadlines
• Cover a wide range of topics including slice-of-life narratives, human interest pieces, city quirks, and stories of success within the community
• Develop and maintain a network of sources within various neighborhoods to stay abreast of local happenings and emerging trends
• Pitch data-focused stories on rising trends in the Big Apple

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in a breaking news setting, preferably with a focus on urban reporting, community journalism and/or data reporting
• Strong knowledge of New York City’s neighborhoods, culture, and lifestyle
• A sharp writer who can deliver clean, coherent copy in The Post’s signature style
• Exceptional news-gathering skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate relationships with sources and community members
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced newsroom environment
• Passionate about making a meaningful impact by sharing stories that resonate with millions of readers across the city and beyond
• Ability to crunch data sets and translate them into plain English—and thoughtful, creative stories for our readers

Pay

Base Pay Range: $62,000 – $80,000
