Cisco Wireless Network Engineer

Job Summary

Provide operations support for Enterprise LAN, Security, Data Center, and Campus Network platforms across North America locations. Install, configure, and support network WLCs and Access Points. Provision network wireless equipment/AP on DNAC. Implement and integrate Cisco Client with wired data, wireless infrastructure, and VPN, including posturing and client provisioning. Build and analyze Client rules to comply with client network security policies. Develop Client rule scripts with associated change documentation to meet project goals and deadlines. Perform deep troubleshooting on Client and DNAC. Understand SDA Fabric controllers and SDA LAN. Configure and manage Cisco Client infrastructure and access policies. Conduct and coordinate site surveys, developing site plans to ensure total facility coverage. Maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting. Arrange scheduled upgrades. Conduct wireless site surveys utilizing spectrum analysis technologies, recommending and implementing corrective actions. Investigate faults in the wireless network. Resolve incidents, problems, and changes according to established procedures. Work on service improvement activities and complete them within target dates. Update network equipment to the latest firmware releases. Work closely with customers, infrastructure teams, and vendors such as Cisco. Report network status to key stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with Cisco Wireless Controllers (5500s, 9800s) and Cisco Aironet 9100, 4800, 3800, and 2800 Access Points.
  • Strong understanding of Cisco Client infrastructure and AAA.
  • Implementing Cisco SDA (Software-Defined Access), DNAC with Wireless Network Technologies, and Meraki Solutions.
  • Strong experience with tools like Cisco DNAC, Cisco Client, PagerDuty, Data Dog, and Thousand Eyes.
  • Strong understanding of WLAN technologies, network management, and 802.11 b/g/n/ac standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with analysis tools such as Ekahau and Wireshark.
  • Deep understanding of LAN switching technologies, including Cisco Wireless, SDA, DNAC, Client, VLAN, STP, trunking, and wireless concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of switching technologies such as STP, trunking, EtherChannel, HSRP, VRRP, LACP, and PaGP.
  • CCNA Wireless Certified.
  • Experience configuring Cisco Wireless LAN and Lightweight Access Point solutions.
  • Strong experience working with Cisco Client models.
  • Cisco Client experience to understand how Client works and integrates into wireless.
  • FlexConnect experience on a large scale.
  • Strong experience with both centralized and local Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers.
  • Strong experience with Cisco Lightweight Access Points.
  • Thorough understanding of 802.11-based wireless architecture.
  • Strong working knowledge of installing, configuring, and supporting Cisco Router/Switch and Wireless LAN hardware products.
  • Familiarity with wireless security and ensuring wireless network security deployment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS.

Must-Have

  • 7+ years of experience working with Cisco Wireless Controllers (5500s, 9800s) and Cisco Aironet 9100, 4800, 3800, and 2800 Access Points.
