About the Role
This position requires the RN to work effectively in the Operating Room in the circulating nurse role. The role also includes on-call hours for surgical emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Continuously assess the patient's physiological and psychological status before, during, and after surgery and recognize abnormalities.
- Document care in a thorough, timely, and accurate manner reflecting the care provided.
- Anticipate, interpret, and act on patient data to prevent problems or complications.
- Identify priorities and implement care based on sound nursing judgment, individual patient needs, and facility procedures and standards.
- Perform effectively in crises or complex situations, promptly grasping the situation and performing your role.
- Function as a patient advocate by protecting the patient from harm during the perioperative period.
- Recommend changes needed in policy and procedure to assure quality care.
- Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients in assigned areas, completing necessary forms and referrals.
- Ensure educational needs are met for all patients.
- Anticipate and coordinate admission, transfer, and discharge needs of patients to assure timely and smooth transitions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic techniques, surgical instrumentation and equipment, and principles of microbiology to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Perform nursing skills according to REHC policies and procedures using proper body mechanics and universal precautions.
- Stay current in nursing knowledge and attend educational offerings that enhance skills.
- Prepare, process, and provide functioning supplies, equipment, and instruments to ensure their economic and efficient function for patients and personnel.
- Anticipate and provide supplies consistently in a timely fashion.
- Maintain assigned departments and areas supplied and neatly organized using systematic inventory and material control principles.
- Assist with the research and evaluation of new equipment and supplies.
- Contribute to the quality and safety efforts of the facility by providing honest and valuable input.
- Work cooperatively with other departments and personnel to provide patient care continuity.
- Seek opportunities to assist other staff, contributing to teamwork and a positive spirit.
- Assist with patient scheduling.
- Promote a working atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Participate willingly in the orientation of staff and evaluate their readiness for independent functioning.
- Adhere to the Bill of Rights, Vulnerability, and Confidentiality policies.
- Strive to receive no negative customer complaints.
- Treat patients and all others with courtesy and respect.
- Stay current and comply with Department of Health, Health and Human Services, Fire Safety, OSHA, and other regulations.
- Participate in continuing education programs and staff meetings for personal and professional growth.
- Contribute to staff knowledge by giving in-services and reporting on new developments in areas of job responsibility.
- Demonstrate flexibility daily to meet the demands of a changing environment.
- Follow the Policy and Procedure manual.
Requirements
- Holds a current Minnesota RN license.
- Certification in American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess one of the following certifications at the time of hire: American Heart Association (AHA) BLS, Red Cross CPR, or a comparable certification with prior approval.
- Employees will be enrolled in the RQI program and must complete quarterly training modules to obtain AHA BLS certification within the first 3 months of employment if not already certified through AHA.
Schedule
Full-time (0.9 FTE, 72 hours per two weeks) position available in our Surgical Services department. Schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, with scheduled on-call hours.
Pay
Base pay range: $38.22 - $58.37 per hour.
