Job Description

Instruct Classes: Lead safe, effective, and engaging Geri-Fit classes, adapting exercises to accommodate varying fitness levels, physical limitations, and health conditions common among older adults.

Follow Geri-Fit Program Standards: Deliver classes in accordance with Geri-Fit program guidelines and evidence-based practices designed to improve strength, balance, flexibility, and functional fitness.

Member Safety: Monitor participants throughout class, provide modifications as needed, and maintain a safe exercise environment by following all YMCA policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.

Equipment Management: Set up, inspect, clean, and store exercise equipment before and after each class, including dumbbells, resistance bands, chairs, and other program materials.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate attendance records and submit required program documentation in a timely manner.

Participant Engagement: Foster positive relationships with participants, encourage regular attendance, and create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that supports healthy aging.

Communication: Report participant concerns, incidents, or program needs to YMCA staff and maintain effective communication with senior center personnel.

Substitute Coverage: Arrange for a qualified substitute instructor if unable to teach a scheduled class.

Qualifications

  • Certification: Current Geri-Fit Instructor Certification, or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid: Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent).
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching group exercise, senior fitness, strength training, wellness programs, or related fitness instruction preferred.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of age-related physical changes and the ability to modify exercises for participants with chronic conditions, mobility limitations, or balance concerns.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to demonstrate exercises, assist with equipment setup, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Age: Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Schedule: Availability to teach classes at the Nanticoke Senior Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during scheduled program hours.
  • Clearances: Ability to pass PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, National Sex Offender Registry, and Mandatory Reporter.
