Christmas Kettle Worker

About the role

The Kettle Worker is responsible for ringing bells at assigned locations as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising efforts. The Kettle Worker is the first point of public contact in the Christmas fundraising and must exhibit the highest standards of customer service. A Kettle Worker must greet and interact with the general public in a courteous and friendly manner.

Responsibilities

• Ring the bell at your appointed kettle stand/location
• Respond to the general public’s questions and requests for information courteously and direct to the appropriate Salvation Army representative
• Collect monetary donations on behalf of The Salvation Army at the kettle stand
• Greet guests (donors) in a friendly and hospitable manner
• Follow instructions and work independently
• Meet attendance requirements
• Conduct all communication with public and staff at the highest level of professionalism
• Never leave the kettle unattended for any reason, except for authorized breaks at a secure location
• Wear the identification and any special clothing provided by The Salvation Army at all times while on duty; return the ID at the end of employment
• Complete, sign, and place a daily time card in the kettle at the end of the working day

• Education: None required
• Work/Professional experience: Customer service experience preferred
• Ability to ring a small hand bell (repetitive motion)
• Moderate mobility (combinations of standing and walking)
• Physical ability to lift, carry, and/or push/pull light objects less than 25 lbs.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to stand or sit in one location for extended periods in outdoor weather conditions
• Work performed outdoors with exposure to weather changes, noise, dust, dirt, etc.
• Environment with frequent interruptions and in‑person contact with people who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated
• Regular and punctual attendance is essential
• Requires working irregular hours (nights, weekends, holidays)
• Successful candidates must pass a criminal history check; convictions are considered individually
• The Salvation Army has a dress code; details will be provided at orientation

Pay

Hourly wage: $15.55

• Seasonal position with various hours
