To Building Principal and Athletics and Activities Director

Job Summary

To provide students with an opportunity to explore their interests and talents through participation in the performing arts program. To promote self-confidence and leadership skills and to provide a variety of worthwhile learning experiences which enhance and enrich the regular school program.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise a series of regularly-scheduled activities, such as practices, for participating students after school hours
• Aide in directing school choir / performing arts activities including concerts and performances at athletic events, festivals, and community events
• Attend all choir meetings and in-school events, and supervise students on related field trips and other out-of-school functions
• Attend out-of-school meetings, supervise fundraisers, and help students prepare for competitions
• Arrange with the athletics and activities director for any necessary transportation or scheduling of competition officials related to an activity
• Ensure the safety of the students and maintain responsibility for the security of equipment and facilities
• Actively promote the [band/choir] programs and seek student participation
• Oversee the development, production, sales/distribution and advertising of any product produced by the students
• Model positive behavior and maintain a supportive environment
• Prepare the choir budget(s), order necessary supplies and equipment, and maintain appropriate records related to activity expenses and revenues
• Be responsible for the collection, depositing of funds, payment of bills, and financial reporting in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
• Organize events which may include school-wide contests and participation in local, state, or national contests
• Work with the athletics and activities director and/or building principal to assist in determining performances to attend
• Work with coaches, parents, news reporters and community members
• Cookordinate the use of facilities such as the auditorium and gym for rehearsals and concerts
• Assist other district music personnel
• Perform and coordinate work with elementary and high school programs
• Evaluate the band/choir program annually and make recommendations for improvements as necessary
• Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, and by reading professional publications
• Seek assistance should emergencies arise
• Represent the school district in a positive manner
• Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
• Perform other duties as assigned

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated periodically by the building principal and/or the athletics and activities director in conformance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.
