Choir Faculty, Part-Time (.25 FTE)

Part-time (0.25 FTE) exempt position, 10-month appointment.

About the role

The Fine Arts Program at IMSA enables each student to develop a fundamental knowledge of the aesthetic, intellectual, emotional, cultural, and social aspects of artistic perception, valuing, creation, interpretation, and evaluation. Students explore the content and meaning of the arts beyond facts, symbolic representation, and technical proficiency, connecting the emotive and cognitive aspects of learning.

Schedule

• Choir classes meet 6:30–8:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.
• Asynchronous work, small-group rehearsals, and individual rehearsals require an additional minimum of 1.5 contact hours per week.
• Four concerts per year (two per semester).
• Preparation of students for ILMEA and solo/ensemble competitions.

Responsibilities

• Teach and direct the Chamber and Concert Choirs.
• Use IMSA’s instructional technology platforms, including the student information system (SIS) and learning management system (LMS).
• Guide and tutor students outside of class time.
• Participate in the team’s curriculum and assessment development process.
• Attend all required meetings at the beginning of the year, Faculty and Team Meetings on I-Days and Family Days.
• Participate in a reduced teacher evaluation process (new teacher track only), consisting of two observations per semester (one informal, one formal).
• Complete state-mandated trainings.
• Maintain 1.0 hours of office hours each week.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Master’s degree in Music or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year teaching music, conducting choir/band/orchestra, or providing individual/small group instruction through organized lessons.
• Experience and comfort with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
• Effective communication with students, staff, and parents.
• Engagement in reflective professional practice.
• Highly motivated, results-oriented individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience conducting choir.
• Experience working with gifted and talented student populations.
• Experience working with adolescents.
• Experience in culturally diverse environments and/or culturally responsive pedagogy.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. The role requires speaking for extended periods, hearing and visual acuity, manipulation of music materials and instruments, and mobility. Pay

Salary is regionally commensurate with training and experience in like institutions. Rates can be found in the Faculty CBA.

An annual stipend is provided for Solo/Ensemble competitions, ILMEA music festival, and four evening concerts (two per semester).
