Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform as a lay ecclesial minister in support of the parish’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
- Abside by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
- In consultation with the Director of Music develop the music program for the choir as necessary for liturgical celebrations.
- Ensure that choir members are well-versed in the liturgy of the Church and the propriety of their duties including an understanding of the rubrics of the Church.
- Ensure that choir members are aware of Church protocol including maintaining an environment of respect and solemnity at all liturgical celebrations.
- Meet on a regular basis and maintain open communication with choir members and musicians, and provide training as necessary.
- Recruit and form musicians and choir members as necessary.
- Plan rehearsals and copy music as needed.
- Provide music for accompanists.
- Notify choir members of upcoming music and other notifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal music and office environment.
Basic Qualifications
- A working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Must have a working knowledge of the Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church and traditions.
- Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations interpersonal skills.
- Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public.
- Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is always a must; weekend and overtime work may be required.
- Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
- Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent education.
- Formal training in choral conducting and experience with music in the Catholic liturgy.
Other/Preferred Skills
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
