About the role
The Blue Hornets Boys Soccer Team Head Coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics, who will provide a final evaluation to the superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
- Help athletes achieve an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.
- Supervise the overall upkeep, protection, and inventory of equipment and uniforms.
- Absorb and adhere to existing state and league regulations.
- Aid in transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
- Attend league meetings for scheduling and rule updates.
- Create and maintain schedules for all levels of play.
- Communicate schedule changes to the Director of Athletics or athletic coordinator.
- Maintain proper safeguards for equipment storage areas.
- Prepare for and adhere to scheduled sport events or practices.
- Make recommendations for awards and clarify the award policy.
- Participate in budgeting with the Director of Athletics.
- Explain equipment guidelines and operate within the established budget.
- Understand and enforce policies from the student-athlete and CIAC handbooks.
- Establish fundamental teaching philosophy, skills, and techniques.
- Monitor and secure equipment rooms, coaches' office, and ensure safety.
- Submit postseason reports to the Director of Athletics.
- Ensure the health and welfare of student-athletes.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, paying attention to those who are injured or ill.
- Follow protocol for injured athletes.
- Organize pre-season meetings for players and coaches.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on student-athletes' performance.
- Maintain good public relations with media, parents, officials, opponents, and fans.
- Instill respect for equipment and school property.
- Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
- Maintain current Connecticut coaching certification.
Qualifications
- Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
- Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
