About the role

The Head Coach will instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. They will also help athletes develop an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the overall operation of the program
• Ensure proper upkeep and protection of equipment and uniforms
• Absorb and follow state and league regulations
• Assist in transportation and logistics for tournaments and special events
• Develop and adhere to schedules for all levels of play
• Communicate schedule changes to the Director of Athletics
• Maintain equipment storage areas and ensure proper maintenance
• Prepare for and manage scheduled events or practices
• Make recommendations for awards and clarify award policies
• Participate in budgeting and explain equipment guidelines
• Follow policies and procedures outlined in the student-athlete and CIAC handbooks
• Establish teaching philosophy, skills, and techniques
• Monitor and secure facilities when leaving
• Submit postseason reports to the Director of Athletics
• Manage team conduct and welfare
• Communicate effectively with media, parents, officials, opponents, and fans
• Instill respect for equipment and school property
• Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians
• Maintain current coaching certification

Qualifications

• Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit
• Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of girls basketball
