ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Has full responsibility for the overall supervision of the Chippens Hill Middle School Co-Ed Cross Country team.
- Assists the athletic coordinator in providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
- Attends all league meetings regarding scheduling and rule updates specific to cross country.
- Develops schedules for all levels of play and communicates all schedule changes to the Director of Athletics or athletic coordinator.
- Ensures proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment storage areas.
- Prepares for scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
- Makes recommendations for awards and clarifies the award policy to athletes.
- Participates in the budgeting process with the Director of Athletics by establishing requirements for the next season.
- Explains and reinforces rules of training and code of conduct in the student-athlete handbook along with the CIAC eligibility rules to all members of the team.
- Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' office, ensuring general cleanliness and safety.
- Secures all doors, lights, windows, gates, locks, and alarm when leaving the building or outside facility when custodians are not on duty.
- Submits necessary postseason reports to the Director of Athletics at the conclusion of the season.
- Responsible for the actions and conduct of the team whenever they are under their jurisdiction.
- Responsible for the general health and welfare of student-athletes in cross country.
- Pays appropriate attention to athletes who are injured or ill or otherwise incapacitated.
- Follows the protocol set by the athletic department in regards to injured athletes.
- Organizes pre-season meetings for players and coaches.
- Evaluates performance of student-athletes and provides suitable feedback, balancing critique with positive and motivating comments.
- Maintains good public relations with media, parents, officials, opponents, and fans.
- Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and use.
- Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
- Maintains current Connecticut coaching certification with the State of Connecticut Department of Education.
Qualification Requirements
- Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
- Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
- The ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- A substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of cross country.
