About the role

NSA's Linguists, known as Multidisciplined Language Analysts (MDLAs), play a crucial role in the Intelligence Community by analyzing, transcribing, and translating foreign language materials. They are integral to the SIGINT mission, offering insights into foreign cultures and trends.

Responsibilities

  • Offer U.S. policymakers and military leaders a window into the foreign language world by analyzing, transcribing, and translating key information.
  • Research and understand other cultures, their operations, and their place in the global political landscape.
  • Apply new techniques and develop creative solutions to address complex analytic problems.
  • Craft written and oral assessments that provide unique insights unavailable from other intelligence disciplines.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, both within NSA and with other analysts in the Intelligence Community.

Requirements

  • Minimum language proficiency of Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level 2/2 in reading and listening in the target language.
  • Relevant experience in language work, analysis, or related fields such as intelligence analysis, international relations, security studies, journalism, law, STEM, etc.
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED, Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or Doctoral degree.
  • Experience: Entry requires a high school diploma/GED plus 4 years of relevant experience, Associate's degree plus 2 years, Bachelor's degree plus 3 years, Master's degree plus 1 year, or Doctoral degree with no experience. Full Performance requires 7 years of relevant experience, Senior requires 10 years of relevant experience.

Benefits

  • Full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8-hour days between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (flexible).
  • Two-year DCIPS trial period unless a veteran preference-eligible employee, in which case one-year trial period.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Salary range: $50,460 - $187,093 (Entry/Developmental, Full Performance, Senior).
  • Training will be provided based on the selectee's needs and experience.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8-hour days between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (flexible).
