About the role

NSA's Linguists, known as Multidisciplined Language Analysts (MDLAs), play a crucial role in the Intelligence Community by analyzing, transcribing, and translating foreign language materials. They contribute to the SIGINT mission, helping U.S. policymakers and military leaders understand foreign language worlds, cultures, and geopolitical contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Offer insights to U.S. policymakers and military leaders by analyzing, transcribing, and translating key information.
  • Research and understand other cultures and their operations within the broader geo-political landscape.
  • Develop creative solutions to address complex analytic problems, such as synthesizing large volumes of data and disparate sources.
  • Craft written and oral assessments that provide unique insights unavailable from other intelligence disciplines.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, both within NSA and with other analysts in the Intelligence Community.

Requirements

  • Minimum language proficiency of Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level 2/2 in reading and listening in the target language.
  • Relevant experience in language work, analysis, or intelligence-related fields.
  • Desired coursework and experience in target development, social network analysis, metadata analysis, research methodology, and quantitative/statistical analysis.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Associate's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with no experience.
  • High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of relevant experience, or Associate's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 1+ year of relevant experience, or Doctoral degree with no experience.
  • High school diploma or GED with 10+ years of relevant experience, or Associate's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Doctoral degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient in target language (Chinese).
  • Organized and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Able to synthesize information and solve complex problems.
  • Able to provide timely and accurate customer service.

Benefits

  • Full-time position, Monday-Friday, with flexible hours between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Pay, Schedule, & Benefits

  • Salary range: $50,460 - $187,093 (Entry/Developmental, Full Performance, Senior).
  • Training will be provided based on the selectee's needs and experience.
  • Paid travel may be necessary due to the availability of testing sites.
  • DCIPS Trial Period: Two years unless you are a veterans' preference-eligible employee, in which case one year.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants.
